Creating Publicis’
new global brand system.

HISTORY FORWARD In 2014, Andrew Bruce, the CEO of Publicis North America, asked my team to modernize the company's identity for the first time in years. So we did our research and found a solution that was in some ways nearly a century old. The inspiration came from the company’s founder, Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet, who started his small ad agency in 1926 above a butcher shop in Paris. On his first office door, printed in a bold, modern typeface befitting the era of Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Picasso, and Einstein, was the first Publicis sign. He called it “the door of my life.” Eighty-nine years later, we updated it and made it the cornerstone of the agency's new design system, which we called "History Forward." I hope Marcel would have been proud.
